The Songbird Ultra™ has been designed for simplicity of use. When ready to use, gently remove the body of the hearing aid from the sealed bag. Determine what ear you would like to wear the Songbird and connect either the right or left tip & tube to the body. The right tip is marked in RED and the left tip is marked in BLUE. Open the battery door, and insert the provided battery. Put the body behind your ear, and then insert the tip. Place the body behind your ear. Grasp the tip and slowly push the tip into your ear. Adjust the retention cord to rest inside the outer part of your ear to secure the tip in your ear. Take note of the volume level and try speaking with another person. If you find that you need it louder or softer, use the volume control wheel or sound boost button to find the ideal level.
To remove the Songbird, while the tip is in your ear, grasp the body and gently take it off your ear. Then, grasp the tube or the retention cord and gently remove the tip from your ear. Do not use the body to pull the tip directly out of the ear. This may damage the tube, or remove the tip and tube from the device. To conserve battery power and turn off the Songbird, open the battery door completely (partially open may still drain the battery) and remove the battery if you would like. After you have removed the Songbird, remove any visible wax, and place the hearing aid in the supplied carrying case. Close the case and store at room temperature to help maximize product life. For visual instructions refer to the Instructional Booklet that came with your Songbird.
To clean the wax from the tube, remove the tube from the hearing aid body by gently rotating and pulling the tube assembly off the hearing aid. Then gently push the tube cleaner enclosed through the tube. This will push the wax out of the tube at the other end. Never use the tube cleaner while the tube is still attached to the hearing aid as this may push wax and debris into the body of the hearing aid. For more information, see page 16 and 17 of your Ultra™ user instructional brochure.
The Songbird Ultra™ is also warranted for 90 days after the time of purchase against defects in materials and workmanship and to perform within published specifications. If, through no fault of your own, the Songbird Ultra™ stops working within this 90-day period (parts, materials, or workmanship), Songbird will repair or replace the product at its sole discretion.
This warranty is void if: (a.) defects in materials or workmanship or damages result from repairs or alterations which have been made or attempted by others or the unauthorized use of nonconforming parts, (b.) the damage is due to abuse, improper maintenance, neglect or accident, or (c.) the damage is due to use of the product with improper accessories.
Yes, the Songbird Ultra™ takes 312 hearing aid batteries, which are available at most grocery and drug stores.
Your device comes equipped with automatic feedback (whistling) cancellation. Feedback is common with all hearing aids and occurs when some of the sound produced by the speaker finds its way back to the microphone, and is amplified once again.
You may hear whistling when you put the device on, when you adjust its position on/in your ear, or when you are adjusting the volume. This is normal.
The device will automatically adjust to eliminate this feedback (whistling) once the aid if fully inserted into the ear and in a comfortable position.
Your device is programmed to reduce the loudness of low-level microphone and background noises that can bother hearing aids wearers. Oftentimes first time hearing aid wearers are not used to hearing noises such as the hum of the refrigerator or air conditioning. Adjusting to these noises again can take some time. Ultra users report that these background sounds are less annoying and they experience more relaxed listening as a result of the automatic Noise Reduction feature.
The Songbird Ultra™ has a feedback cancellation feature that automatically reduces the feedback. However, if the feedback persists, some people find that they can either turn down the volume, or wiggle or adjust the hearing aid inside the ear.
In addition to the volume control on the device, your Songbird has been programmed to enable additional sound boosts, as needed. The Sound Boost button on the back of the hearing aid allows you to do this. To use Sound Boost, use the manual Volume Control to set the volume to where you normally like it. Use the Sound Boost for the times when you need a little extra volume-find the boost level that's right for you.
Your device has 4 volume levels.
Level 1-Standard volume
Level 2- Boost (small)
Level 3-Boost (medium)
Level 4-Boost (large)
When pushed, the Sound Boost button will increase the volume to each subsequent level. You will hear 2 beeps when you boost the volume to Level 2, 3 beeps for Level 3, and 4 beeps for Level 4.
The device returns to the standard volume once the aid is turned off, or when the Sound Boost button is pushed a fourth time (one beep, to signify the return to the first/standard volume level.)
There are a few options for you. Make sure that the hearing aid is pushed in as far as it can go in your ear canal, until it fits snugly. For the most secure fit, pull up and back on your ear while pushing the tip into place.
If the aid continues to slip, make sure the locking mechanism is securely in place in your outer ear, as that helps to keep the tip in place.
Yes, you can. The Songbird Ultra™ comes with a volume control dial, as well as a sound boost button. The volume control dial is located on the body of the hearing aid, and make sounds louder or softer. If you find you need an extra boost, we have 2 additional settings for higher gain.
