Sharing Your Stories: Gregory Blair Shares His Experience

As we’ve said before, making the decision to buy a hearing aid is not an easy decision.  Knowing you’re not alone and that others have gone down this road before can be a comforting fact while you’re doing your research.  We’ve talked to hundreds of our customers about their decision to use Songbird.  This year, we’re committed to sharing these stories with you and giving you an honest view into the hearing aid selection process. 

Songbird user Gregory Blair of New York started exploring hearing aid options after his doctor encouraged him to have his hearing checked by an audiologist.  The audiologist found that Gregory had moderate hearing loss in both ears.  Initially, Gregory purchased two behind-the-ear hearing aids with ear molds from another manufacturer.  Not only was the upfront cost high, but he also began to notice that the cost for maintenance and repairs was pretty expensive.

Gregory saw an ad on TV for Songbird and decided to visit the Web site to research the options available. In June, Gregory purchased the Flexfit Disposable.  Although he was initially concerned about the feedback he experienced, he found that the foam rings were a big help.  He also found the aid to be very discreet, with the earpieces much less visible than his previous aids.  In August Gregory decided to purchase the Flexfit with replaceable batteries.

Like many users, Gregory did not immediately adjust to his new hearing aids.  While he was used to the behind the ear fit from his previous aids, he found that he had to use the hearing aids every day in order to get accustomed to how they felt as well as the new sounds he was experiencing.  Now, he wears them when teaching as an adjunct at a community college as well as when he’s watching TV or out with friends.  Through the use of the Flexfit, Gregory has found that he can hear his wife and female students much better than he could prior to using the aids. 

As Gregory’s story demonstrates, everyone’s hearing needs are unique.  While a behind the ear model with ear molds may work well for your neighbor, you never know if it’s going to be the right fit for you until you try.  Gregory’s persistence to find a model that felt right for him ended up paying off in the end.  Through research and patience, Gregory was able to address his hearing needs in a cost effective and comfortable fashion.
